Mopping Mania

He's a maaaaniac
Maaaaniac on the floor.
And he's moppin' like
He's never mopped before.
Here's how it goes down. Feel free to mop along:
1. Sweep the floor. Please. For the love of all that is good. Next, you can suit up in some super cool swim trunks. (optional unless you're a 7 year old boy)
2. Squirt floor with soap mixture. We like Murphy's Oil Soap. Here, the boy just slings it around directly from the bottle, which turns out is not a good plan. See making a mop bottle below for a much better option.

3. Wet floor. You can do this with your kitchen sprayer hose,
with a squirt bottle (below), or with your handy dandy Super Soaker. You want a totally wet floor, but not a flood.

Do you hear me? What did I just say?

That's good. Enough. Helllooooo????
STO-O-O-O-O-P!
(ahem) Good.
4. At this point, you can let the water sit for a while to soften things up if you're dealing with the aftermath of a spend the night pizza making party, or just life with 4 kids.
5. Toss down a junk towel, and skate all around the floor
Be sure to get along all the edges. If you run into a stubborn spot, just scrub the towel back and forth a few times with your toe, and you're good to go. Much easier than scrubbing with a mop...
and it helps if you do Mr. Roboto arms.
When you're done skating around on your towel, the floor is clean AND dry! This mopping method really rocks. The kids LOVE to mop the floor now, which works really great for me.
And now:
How to make a squeezie mop bottle.
In case your Super Soaker is in the shop.
You'll need: Your floor soap of choice, a squeezie bottle and a permanent marker.
My bottle holds a little more than 2 cups of water. So I need to add about a teaspoon and a half of Murphy's Oil Soap.
Mark a line to show how much soap to add. This way, you won't have to measure each time you mop.
Fill with warm water, put the lid on, and shake to blend soap into water. Squeeze away!
Have you ever mopped this way? Let me know how you like it if you try it. And feel free to send me a picture of yourself skating around your kitchen on a towel while wearing your swimsuit.
Happy Spring Cleaning!
