Onion remedies are at your fingertips in the average kitchen. The humble onion can surprisingly treat many ailments very effectively. They are the basis of many a historic remedy.
Onions as Medicine: ActionsUsed externally, on the skin, onions are rubefacient...which is a fancy word for they'll make your skin turn red. Onions stimulate the skin, making the blood rise to the surface, giving the skin a red appearance. Internally, onion is a stimulant, an expectorant (loosens phlegm), and a diu... Continue reading...

Onion nutrition and remedies is our next topic, to continue with the 'natural remedies you may already have
in your kitchen' theme. This humble little bulb
has a long and fragrant history, much like its cousin, garlic. In fact,
these two have similar actions...and compliment one another in remedies and

This is the Whooping Cough post that I’m the most excited to share!!! I mean, I’m not giddy about having such a long and nasty bug this year, but it’s such a great feeling to treat your family at home with herbs and foods that you feel good about giving them, and watch them get better! So I want to share what has worked for our family.

Our internship with whooping cough this fall has prompted me to get the word out. Though I’m not a fan of scare tactic health care, I want everyone to be aware of how contagious, and potentially devastating this disease is to those who may be immune compromised, and especially to very tiny babies. Whooping cough was the last thing on my mind as we packed for a late summer vacation at the beach. But on the second day there, our baby’s cough got considerably worse…we realized that we had an insidious guest. The pertussis bacteria had traveled with us on vacation.
The really scary thing is, my babe was the last of the four kids to get the “bad cough”. Up to that point, we really had only thought of it as a cold with a bad, lingering cough. We started researching based on the sym... Continue reading...

I'd love to share with you what I've learned about this amazing herb! Now, the really hard core herb users will usually recommend eating raw garlic cloves. Ha! That would be out of the question with my kids. I needed kinder, gentler,... Continue reading...
